Announcing our first collaborative adventure! After our visit in the spring 0f 2014, Magellan International School’s science teacher Jennifer Barnett came up with the idea of translating our exhibit signs into Spanish. The 7th grade science students took on the project, and with some help from their Spanish teacher, Victor Solis, these awesome kids had the signs ready to go for this year’s visit with Magellan on April 17th.

What a fantastic addition to our program!

Rocking the Round Rock Public Library

ACCHaoS at the Round Rock Public Library

It seems like we start every post with “We had a great time at….” but the thing is, it’s true – we always have a great time!

Our visit to the Round Rock Public Library was, well, how else can I say it?  It was great!  We had a huge turnout. rrpl22014 We love seeing lots and lots of kids and parents sharing science.  Check the cool photos courtesy of the RRPL!

ACCHaoS – Fall 2013 in Retrospect

We’ve been busy.  I mean, really busy – and this is a very, very good thing!  I was catching up on some record-keeping this morning.  So far this semester (Fall 2013), ACCHaoS has made five school visits to four schools, and attended three public events – two Star Parties, and a Back to School Night that Paul did all by himself!  This translates into about forty-three hours of direct contact, and sharing science with a little over 1, 300 kids and adults.  We’re not done yet – we still have one more school visit before Winter Break.  The fun won’t stop there – we have  full calendar for Spring 2014!  Let the wild science rumpus begin!

Take a look at these photos – you can see why it has been a blast!

Wow – haven’t posted in a while.  We’ve been busy this semester!

We had a great turnout at last Friday’s Star Party!  Lots of kids and their parents, lots of sharing science going on!  Here are a few really great photos – many thanks to the intrepid Karl Trappe for taking these photos.  If you’d like to see more, check out our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ACCHaoS

Summer with ACCHaoS – Surfin’ Some Science!

We’ve had a good summer so far – we’ve shared science with the folks at the Willie Mae Kirk branch of the Austin Public Library, the Westbank Community Library, and with Astro Camp!  Not too bad for summer vacation!

Science Rocks!  Willie Mae Kirk Branch – Austin Public Library

June 7, 2013

There was an incredible turnout for Science Rocks! at the library.  We lost count of how many kids, parents, and other adults showed up – there were lots and lots of people of all ages! The library did an awesome job putting on a fantastic science day!

What can we say – we love libraries!   We had a good time being part of Westbank Community Library’s summer hands-on series.

Three exhibits at once!

We visited Astro Camp last year, and we were excited to visit there again this year.   The folk from Austin Planetarium and Starry Skies Austin put on fabulous  one week camps for kids each summer, complete with lots of science activities and of course, their mobile planetarium, the Discovery Dome.  The campers were definitely scientists in the making – they asked lots of good questions, and made some great observations.

Summer is winding down, but ACCHaoS is gearing up for another year of science fun!  Our schedule is really filling up, so if you would like for us to visit your school this year, drop us a quick email at ACChandsonscience@gmail.com or visit our online request form at http://www.austincc.edu/physics/acchaos/request.html

Enjoy the rest of the summer, and stay cool!
