ACCHaoS – Fall 2013 in Retrospect

We’ve been busy.  I mean, really busy – and this is a very, very good thing!  I was catching up on some record-keeping this morning.  So far this semester (Fall 2013), ACCHaoS has made five school visits to four schools, and attended three public events – two Star Parties, and a Back to School Night that Paul did all by himself!  This translates into about forty-three hours of direct contact, and sharing science with a little over 1, 300 kids and adults.  We’re not done yet – we still have one more school visit before Winter Break.  The fun won’t stop there – we have  full calendar for Spring 2014!  Let the wild science rumpus begin!

Take a look at these photos – you can see why it has been a blast!

Wow – haven’t posted in a while.  We’ve been busy this semester!

We had a great turnout at last Friday’s Star Party!  Lots of kids and their parents, lots of sharing science going on!  Here are a few really great photos – many thanks to the intrepid Karl Trappe for taking these photos.  If you’d like to see more, check out our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ACCHaoS

ACCHaOS on the Road: Star Party Time!

021It’s time for the first Star Party of the Spring 2012 semester!  Join us on Friday, February 15th from 5:30pm until 9:30pm at ACC’s Round Rock campus for a night of family-friendly science and fun.  It’s free, and the public is invited.

From 5:30 until 8:00pm, ACCHaOS will have their hands-on science activities set up in the lobby of building 2000, and the Austin Planetarium will be presenting planetarium shows in the mobile planetarium, the Discovery Dome.

From 7:00 until 8:00pm, Dr. Jim Heath of the Astronomy and Physics programs at ACC will give an hour-long talk,  “What’s the Deal with Pluto?”,  in room 3339 in building 3000.

At 7:30 the observing deck will be opened for some guided night sky viewing through the three ACC telescopes. At 7:30 the observing deck will open, and ACC faculty will assist the public in viewing the night sky.  The Pleiades, the Orion Nebula, and of course, our own Moon will be in the sky for viewing.
